To get into the spirit of the time, here's a compilation of lyrics of songs from the nineteenth century that would have been sung in the Wild West. It includes links to sites containing the music, in case you don't know the tunes.


Some are songs of the American Civil War that would be patriotic for either northerners or southerners, others are simply popular songs that would be sung by anybody of the time. Cowboy campfires and saloons would have been the sites of folk singing these rousing choruses and sentimental ballads as they celebrated both the life of the West and fondly recalled their past back in the East.
